So Your Client Just Wants a Bigger House.
Today, while talking to an attorney in Austin who represents Meritage Homes, I was explaining how my client purchased a house with a garage that had only 18 feet of space from the interior wall to the garage door. The garage door barely closes around their Chrysler Minivan and when it does, my client has to either climb across from the driver's side to the passenger side to get into the house or climb over the hood of the car.
I then explained that there was an undersized closet in the house also.It is so small that you can not use a hanger and close the door of the closet. So after hearing all of this, the attorney for Meritage Homes summed up what he considered my client's motivation and said,
"SO YOUR CLIENTS JUST WANTS A BIGGER HOUSE."
Actually, no.They want the house they bargained for which included the standard sized garage and closet. But that type of attitude sums up how builders and sometimes, their attorneys, feel about homeowners - We built you a house. Just be happy we did it and stop your !#$%!#@ whining.
